چکیده

ABSTRACT We study the local dark matter distribution in two models for Milky Way (MW)-Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) interaction. The effect of LMC on is dependent evolution MW-LMC system, such that a static model insufficient to accurately velocity solar neighbourhood.

The lost dark matter in the Small Magellanic Cloud

We show that the mass (Mdm) and the mean density (ρdm) of the dark matter halo within the optical radius (∼ 3 kpc) of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) are unusually low, based on the high-resolution neutral hydrogen (HI) observations of the SMC. The estimated Mdm and ρdm are 7.5 × 10 7M⊙ and 6.7 × 10 −4M⊙ pc , respectively, for the V -band stellar-to-mass-to-light ratio (Ms/LV) of 1. The maximu...

On the Distribution of Dust in the Large Magellanic Cloud

We present a detailed map of the reddening in a 1.9◦ × 1.5◦ section of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), constructed from UBV I photometry of 2069 O and B main sequence stars. We use two reddening-free photometric parameters to determine the line-of-sight reddening to these stars. We find a mean reddening, 〈E(B−V )〉LMC = 0.20 mag, with a non-Gaussian tail to high values. When the reddening is c...

Radio emission from dark matter annihilation in the Large Magellanic Cloud

The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), at only 50 kpc away from us and known to be dark matter dominated, is clearly an interesting place where to search for dark matter annihilation signals. In this paper, we estimate the synchrotron emission due to weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) annihilation in the halo of the LMC at two radio frequencies, 1.4 and 4.8 GHz, and compare it to the observe...

The Distance to the Large Magellanic Cloud

A summary of recent Large Magellanic Cloud distance determinations μLMC is presented, with an eye towards pinpointing the source(s) of the resulting large discrepancies encountered between some of the techniques. Thirty-eight recent (1998-1999) measurements of μLMC are highlighted, the extrema for which (18.07 versus 18.74) are inconsistent with one another at the ∼ >3σ level. The lack of overl...
